CLUB FOUNDATION
The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary
International in the fulfilment of the Object of Rotary
in achieving world understanding and peace through international
humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange and support
programmes.
This is a huge undertaking, but with a little effort
from each and every one of us we can make the small contribution
to make that difference.
Matching Grants:
Our Club is currently involved with a Matching Grant
Water Aid project in India. It is called 'PROJECT NIRMAL',
and is to provide clean and potable drinking water to
a tribal settlement at a place called Neeldungri, which
is on and around a hillock 7km from Tatanagar, Jamshedpur
(Calcutta side of India) where about 2600 people live.
There is currently only one well for supplying drinking
water and it gets dry around February each year. The water
level is at a depth of 160ft and the objective is to dig
at least 4 Bore Wells 200ft deep at different points within
the settlement so that people can access safe drinking
water.
Our formal application, in conjunction with the project
club of Jamshedpur Mid-Town, to Evanston has been approved
and work is proceeding.
Project update
The work was successfully completed during
October 2003 and officially opened by District Governor
Rtn. Dr. C. M. Singh.
Here are some photographs of the Well.

Group Study Exchange.
We were not successful this year in finding a suitable
candidate for the 2003/2004 outgoing GSE team scheduled
to go to India in January 2004 for a four-week stay. They
will be based on the Bihar Jharkhand States in Eastern
India, which is to the west of West Bengal and Calcutta.
The exchange will be centred on the town of Giridih and
will play a major role in the late DG Harry Morris's Water
and Sanitation Project.
Ambassadorial Scholarships.
We hope to invite one of this years Ambassadorial Scholars
currently at Universities in this District to visit our
Club to give a talk to our members in November. These
evenings have proved to be very interesting events over
recent years. Watch the chronicle for details.
Share Allocation - 'Humanitarian, 'Educational' and
'Donated' funds.
Our Club has made its choice for the allocation of The
District Designated 2005/06 Fund for $36,600.00 Fund Raising.
Our Club are involved with the Foundation Calendar and
Christmas Card sales which help to raise, overall, over
£50,000 and £16,000/£20,000 respectively for Foundation.
In addition the collection of empty ink cartridges for
resale adds some welcome income to the Club Foundation
account.
