    Sept 2003
    Edition-94

    From the President

Here we are almost 3 months into the Presidency and what do you think of it so far? "rubbish" is what Morecambe and Wise would say but I couldn't possibly comment.

Sometimes Rotary has to take a back seat and this week I was not able to join you due to work comitments, my thanks go to President of vice Ray Wilcox for taking the chair on Tuesday whom I understand did a sterling job keeping you all in order.

Well done to the 3 Davids and 1 Brian quiz team for taking on the mighty Warwick RC and a convincing victory to Kingfisher in the first round of the District Quiz. I understand the only area in which we struggled was the Rotary questions!

Please note the change of venue this week as we have a lot of visitors we will be meeting at the Alcester Moathouse with guest speaker Rtn Geof Barnes who will be making us feel unfit with the story of his epic cycle ride around Britain.

    See you there

    This Week in History

On 30th September 1938 the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned from Germany and told a crowd at Heston Airport, London: " I believe it is peace in our time. " and waved the agreement he had signed with Adolf Hitler. What happened next - answers on a postcard please.

(It was actually a grocery bill!)

    District News

    STROKE AWARENESS

Remember Stoke Awareness Day - well its back again this year. The event will be held on April 2nd or 3rd. Last year over 130,000 blood pressures were taken and a Guinness book of Records for 127,533 were taken between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

    BUTTERFLY TEA PARTY

On the 20-27 September Rotary International will support local Children's Hospice. Details on how to organise the Tea Party are with the secretary including recipes for Butterfly Cakes and Butterfly Sugar Biscuits. You look as if you are short of a few one-liners. How about these from my very own Bumper Fun Book?

    MacMillan Cancer Relief

are holding their annual fundraising event "The World's Greatest Coffee Morning" on Friday 26th September and there are many activities taking place across the District to support this great cause, including Birmingham Breakfast Rotary Club major event that includes support from the Lord Mayor of Birmingham. If you would like an opportunity to support Macmillan a few days after the main event on the 26th, please do come along to visit the Proposed Rotary Club of Leamington Spa Regency on Wednesday 1st October. The meeting starts at 07:00 for 07:15 and will be held at the usual venue of the Royal Leamington Hotel, Upper Holly Walk, Royal Leamington Spa. Visitors are likely to include a Lord Mayor, but there is likely to be a representative of Macmillan Cancer Relief and there will certainly be some great fellowship and an excellent breakfast.
